About Me

I'm a 3D artist, who is much better at doing work than writing about it. First and foremost, I strive to look for simple solutions from first principles, and practise continuous improvement. I'm aiming to apply deep knowledge of 3D graphics to both the world of media and the physical world around us.

In spite of experiencing break up of Soviet Union, conflict between two rival streets in Ireland, working in start-ups for 10 years and moving three countries, I'm still in one piece.

Timeline

  • Born in Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic

  • First encounter with Computer Graphics
Saw a TV programme where a person with a stylus was tracing a sculpture and a 3D image appeared on the screen. I thought it was magical.

  • Moved to Ireland

  • Videogames, album covers and cartoon.
Made an attempt to create videogame with my high school classmates, and actually completed a 5 minute long cartoon that was animated with sprites on 3D Studio MAX. During that time, I have produced various artwork. I also been commissioned to create concert posters by local bands "Take the Money and Run" and "Second Nature".

  • B.Sc. Product Design ( Dublin Institute of Technology )
After unsuccessful attempt to create video games and being put off art, I have followed advice to channel my skills towards something that was in demand... until the recession struck. Learned engineering, CAD software and proper ways to design things.

  • Nominated for Red Dot design award
Collaborated on an experimental project to decompose cigarette butts.

  • Got mentioned in an Irish newspaper for a project
Thesis project to reduce eye strain from computer monitors from college got mentioned in an Irish newspaper.

  • Worked in start-ups in Dublin.
Got involved in start-ups, because those were the only businesses I could get paid work in during a recession in Dublin. I also wrongly thought that start-ups were about invention. Done a wide variety of freelance and contract projects, from 3D Printing to Interface Design. Had an idea for a website creator app, and then joined a start-up which created one of the first HTML5 mock-up tools. Up until 2014, I have bet my future career on skeumorphics.

  • Took part in informing voters of Ireland about election candidates.
Collaborated on development of a voting tool which was used in several public election campaigns in Ireland. I thought that by participating in improvements of politics and working in tech start-ups, I could get bragging rights to a cheap mortgage in Ireland.

  • Worked on retail and payment technologies in Vancouver
Moved to Vancouver, Canada. Took part in building software solutions for retail and payment technologies markets. Also done some freelancing, mainly for one exciting property technology start-up.

  • Explored future project directions
Made an attempt to introduce blockchain technology to buying and selling of art. Eventually learned that tech would not solve problems for artists. Also got back into filling my sketchbook with random ideas.

  • Contract work with Internet of Things
From April to October, I have worked with Fathym to develop a more user friendly way of building Internet of Things. Also taken part in development of engineering projects with i-onCONNECT.

  • Co-developed and co-founded a venture
Co-developed method to record value of electronic data in accounting books. Used my technical illustration skills to explain how that was possible. The method is still under evaluation. The project initially started as an app to measure underground water levels using the co-founder's algorithms. That project had no commercial potential, so the company adapted one of its components into a software as a service business that will one day help to convert computer files into real assets.

  • Learned how to produce 3D graphics properly
Took a leap of faith to learn 3D modeling and animation properly, so I could get back to making computers produce 3D visuals professionally and get paid for it. Studied it at VCAD in Vancouver, mostly online from home.

  • Became a professional 3D artist
After working on a failed NFT project, I gained enough skills to land a job as a 3D technical artist at Atomic Cartoons in Vancouver.
